Many people think that having your teeth cleaned is one of those things that can be done when you have extra time or extra money. But nothing could be further from the truth. Regardless if you brush and floss your teeth daily, the bacteria that cause tooth decay can still be quietly building around your teeth if you are not doing it properly.
TOOTH DECAY
The bacteria slowly eat through the enamel eventually causing cavities that will require fillings. If left unchecked your teeth can deteriorate to the point of needing root canals and crowns or possibly extraction, all of which can be very painful and very expensive.
GINGIVITIS
Teeth however, are not the only casualties to poor dental hygiene. The same bacteria that causes tooth decay also causes inflammation of the gums known as gingivitis or periodontal disease. As it progresses, symptoms like swelling, redness, sensitivity to hot and cold and bleeding will become more prevalent. Inevitably, the gums will begin to recede resulting in bone loss and ultimately the loss of teeth.
